Squeeze – new DJ mix

Here’s a brand spankin’ new dj mix for those of you that have requested.  Recorded in one shot, July 2nd between 5:08 and 6:08 pm, this gem runs the gamut from deep house, takes you a bit deeper close to the techno border, and lands you softly.  If this don’t make yo’ booty move, yo’ booty must be dead.  Enjoy!

Umlauts for your English Keyboard

Many of you already know that I live in Austria.  A land of great skiing, beer, and würst.  It’s also the land of funny little letters with dots over them.  While they look more or less identical to their non-dotted cousins, the tone and sound of these vowels (and one consonant) sound quite a bit different.

For example:

o – sounds like the o you find in the word ‘whole’

ö – on the other hand sounds like a double o combination – ‘woot’

Normally, when I write in german I have to substitute the umlaut with an oe that creates the same sound.  The primamry reason being that I write on a mac with an international english keyboard.  I say international english, as there is a difference between the US english and UK english keyboards, as I quickly found out in 2001 while living in the UK.

While this issue is not normally a bother for anyone that reads my written German (as it’s probably filled with a number of grammatical mistakes, the umlaut are easy to overlook), it came to a head the other day regarding the work über.  I titled one of my DJ mixes ubertrance and sent it over to Ludwig.  A bit later in the day I noticed his Skype message read – “über, not uber”.  I sent him a message saying something along the lines of, “I know…I know…but I don’t have any umlauts on my keyboard and ueber just looks rediculous”.  He agreed that ueber did in fact look rediculous, and within minutes sent back this link.

After reading what it does and how very easy it is to install and activate…well, there was no reason not to have an EnglishGerman keyboard.  So…if you’re like me working on an English keyboard, but find yourself having to copy/paste umlauts from wikipedia everytime you need one, go grab the USGerman Keyboard Layout for your mac.

Oh snap!  Ok, if the new iPhone wasn’t enough to get you juiced, how about a free one?  Right.  Let me say that again…how about a free iPhone 3G?  Un huh…and no, it’s not a scam.  This is the real deal folks, a good ol’ fashioned down home competition that isn’t all about some skeevy marketing company trying to get your email address and then repackage it.  It’s about change.  The iPhone 3G makes change in one’s life possible.

So here’s how it shakes out:  What’s the craziest/coolest/awesomest(?) thing that you do at 10 after 5?  Ok, before you start whining, yes…some of us do leave the office at (or pretty darn close to) 5pm everyday.  Which reminds me, ed. note: Remember, life is short.  Work hard, but also remember to leave the office at a decent hour.  Too much time at the office and/or working is not a good thing.

Ok, with my public service announcement out of the way, as Eminem said it best, “Let’s get down to business”.

The rules to bring home the bread are simple.  Photograph it, Film it, Blog it, hmmm…is there another media I forgot?  Anywho, you get the point.  The guys at TSheets what to know what you do at 5:10.  5:10 or Five Ten or 5ive 10, etc. must appear in your image (still or moving) or your blog.  They also need you to give ‘em a shout out here, and link yo’ junk up to TSheets.com (think SEO love).

That’s it!  So now there are NO excuses NOT to have the year’s hottest bit of techno love riding in YOUR pocket.  And let’s be honest here folks…anyone that reads this blog on a regular basis MUST be slightly creative/crazy/cool…..Let ‘em hear about it!
