Double your Bacon fun, Flashmob Hammertime, and North Korea
Jun 9th
Since neither of these three topics could really deserve an entire post of their own (at least not with a heavy does of over embellishmen, which eventually leads to, STFU), I’m gonna lump perhaps the three most random topics together in one here. First up: Bacon.
Who doesn’t love bacon? Ok, vegans and vegitarians aside. Let me rephrase, what omnivor doesn’t love bacon? Smell it yet? Let me say it one more time: Bacon. Yum. I’m not even sure where my affinity for bacon comes from, or any one else’s for that matter. If you actually have a think about what bacon is, and what gives it it’s flavor. Well, umm….yeah, it’s kinda disgusting. Perhaps the reason bacon brings a smile to just about everyone’s face is what bacon signifies. I believe bacon to be one of the very true, core, roots comfort foods. Think about all your associations with bacon. Got a bad one? Me neither. Bacon is what mom made on sunday mornings. Bacon is what you have on the side at that greasy spoon diner where the waitress comes by every 10 minutes and doesn’t ask, she just refills your coffee. Now that’s good ol’ fashioned Americana. Bacon. Alternatively, as my friend Mr. Winemaker reminds me, bacon can also be enjoyed best on fresh ass (do NOT click here if you’re at work or easily offended).
Apparently the folks over at Boca Java think bacon is scrumdidilyumptious as well, as I recently discovered their Boca Java’s Maple Bacon Breakfast Roast. Yes,you read that correctly. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. I don’t think I could write the description any better myself, More >
Chevys introduces social media widget
Dec 15th
TexMex restaurant chain Chevys recently launched a widget based holiday flash game that seeks to engage customers and entice them through the door with a special holiday offer.
Working as a Social Media consultant, I spend lots of time talking to company and business owners about what Social Media is, what it can do for their company, and how to use it. Needless to say, when a major restaurant chain breaks the mold and reaches out to customers in new and innovative ways, well…it just makes me jump for joy.
Thanks to clearspring, the widget is embeddable on any blog, web site, or social networking profile, with the top three traffic drivers winning a party valued at $500. It features a “Mexican jumping bean” flash based game, Chevys Fresh Mex recipes, a store locator (including local taxi information), Chevys recipes, and holiday gift cards. When users make a gift card purchase through the Compadre widget they automatically receive a $10 credit towards their next meal with a $50 purchase.
Midori ads a ghoulish glow to your Halloween
Oct 11th
It’s that time of the year again. The evening air takes on a crispness to it. The days begin to grow shorter, and leaves begin the annual cycle of changing color, and dropping to the ground. Autumn. Autumn also means one of my most favorite holidays: Halloween!
From candy to costumes, parties to pranks, Halloween has become the second largest commercial holiday in the US. While Halloween used to be relegated simply to the kids and candy collection, more and more Adults are planning in-home Halloween festivities weeks before the actual event.
Midori Melon Liquer has recently teamed up with Lorena Bendinska, party planner for Hollywood’s elite, and owner of The Silver Spoon, an LA event company, to bring us some helpful tips for planning this years Halloween bash.
Hvar, Croatia
Sep 3rd
When the wife first suggested taking a week off and heading down to Croatia for some fun in the sun, I have to admit, fun in the sun isn’t exactly the first image that comes to mind when I think Croatia. I’ll fully admit that the whole Bosnia/Herzegovina/Serbia thing went relatively unnoticed by me, but I knew Croatia is somewhere in the neighborhood. Ok, granted the whole thing came to an end by 1995, but I hadn’t really thought about Croatia since.
After spending a sun filled week on the island of Hvar off the coast of Croatia, near Split, all I can say is if there was a war raging there a 13 years ago, you’d never know it now. The people, the food, the beaches, everything was just about as close to perfect as you’d want it to be.
We started our journey from Vienna to Split at around 6:30am. Driving south from Vienna to the Slovenian border was a piece of cake. Once in Slovenia, things started to get interesting. It seems as though the Slovenians aren’t exactly building highways at the same rapid pace the Croatians are. Needless to say, we had to follow some two lane roads the headed through the countryside. All I can say is, the people that live along those roads must absolutely hate the summer and relish the winter, as every second car has a German, Austrian, Czech, or Polish license plate. While the Slovenia countryside looks a whole lot like the southern Austrian countryside, once we hit the Croatian border, we were back on track (read: highway) and movin’ right along.
